Seasonal Planning
The Right Week Makes the Holiday
Peak weeks in the Alps are not interchangeable. Christmas in Courchevel feels nothing like half-term in Verbier, and New Year in Zermatt has an atmosphere entirely its own. The resort you choose, the week you travel, and how far ahead you book all shape the experience -- and the price.
Luxury ski chalets in the most sought-after resorts book up months in advance during peak season. In our experience, the best properties for Christmas and New Year are often reserved nine to twelve months ahead, while half-term chalets in popular family resorts can disappear six months before the school holiday begins.
These guides break down each peak season: when to book, what to budget, which resorts suit the occasion, and the amenities that matter most for that particular week. Whether you are planning a festive family Christmas, a lively New Year gathering, or a half-term escape with the children, start here.

Personal Guidance for Peak-Season Booking
Peak weeks are when getting the right chalet matters most -- and when the stakes of booking the wrong one are highest. A chalet that is perfect for a couple at Easter may be entirely wrong for a multigenerational Christmas gathering. Our concierge team knows these resorts and these properties, and we match you with chalets that suit your group, your occasion, and your budget.
We do not charge a booking fee. We connect you directly with the property owner or their management company, handle the introductions, and make sure every detail is confirmed before you travel. For peak-season bookings, that guidance is not a luxury -- it is how you avoid the expensive mistakes.
Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book a peak-season ski chalet?
For Christmas and New Year, the most sought-after chalets book nine to twelve months ahead. Half-term properties typically go six to nine months before the holiday week. The earlier you enquire, the wider your choice -- but late availability does arise, and our concierge team can often find excellent options at shorter notice.
Are peak-season chalets significantly more expensive?
Yes. Christmas, New Year, and February half-term are the most expensive weeks of the ski season, often two to three times the price of the same chalet in January or March. That said, the range is wide -- from well-appointed family chalets at around £5,000 per week to flagship properties exceeding £50,000. Our concierge team can help you find the best value within your budget.
Can I book a chalet for just one of the peak weeks?
Most luxury chalets during peak season operate on fixed Saturday-to-Saturday changeover days. Christmas and New Year are typically sold as separate weeks (arrive December 20 and December 27 respectively for the 2026/27 season). Some properties require a minimum two-week booking over the festive period, but this varies by resort and operator.
Which resorts have the best snow at Christmas?
High-altitude resorts above 1,800m are the most reliable for December snow. Val Thorens (2,300m), Zermatt (1,620m village but skiing to 3,883m), Val d'Isere (1,850m), and Courchevel 1850 are among the most snow-sure options. Lower resorts like Megeve and Kitzbuhel offer exceptional atmosphere but carry more early-season snow risk.
