Geilo sits in the Numedal valley in central Norway, roughly midway between Oslo and Bergen on the famous Bergen Railway line — a practical detail that makes rail travel a genuine option rather than an afterthought. The town has built its reputation as a ski resort over more than a century, with a network of pistes suited to a range of abilities. Dr. Holms Hotel's ski-in, ski-out position means the slopes are immediately accessible from the property. The town centre, with its shops and local restaurants, is within easy reach on foot. At altitude and with a northerly latitude, Geilo holds snow reliably into April, making this late-season timing well-suited to the destination. The included rail transfer further simplifies arrival logistics.

Norway's classic, family-friendly winter wonderland on the edge of the Hardangervidda plateau.
Geilo is one of Norway's oldest and most beloved ski resorts, renowned for its authentic charm, family-friendly atmosphere, and breathtaking scenery. Situated halfway between Oslo and Bergen, the resort is split across two sides of a picturesque valley—Vestlia and Geiloheisen/Havsdalen—which are seamlessly connected by a regular ski bus. The resort offers wide, uncrowded pistes that wind through snow-laden forests, making it an idyllic setting for a relaxing winter holiday. While Geilo may not offer the massive vertical drop of some Alpine giants, it excels in providing high-quality, perfectly groomed terrain that builds confidence in beginners and intermediates. Beyond downhill skiing, Geilo is a world-class destination for cross-country skiing, boasting over 220km of tracks that stretch into the vast Hardangervidda National Park. The village itself is steeped in tradition, offering cozy lodges, excellent local cuisine, and a serene, welcoming vibe that draws families back generation after generation.
Geilo offers uncrowded, wide, and meticulously groomed pistes that are exceptionally safe for children and beginners. The terrain is spread across two valley sides, providing gentle, rolling cruisers on the Vestlia side and slightly steeper, more engaging red and black runs on the Geiloheisen side.
