One of St Anton's most storied properties, the Schwarzer Adler traces its origins to an inn established by the Knights of St John in the early sixteenth century. The Tschol family have owned and operated it since 1885, and that continuity shows — in the farm-sourced ingredients the kitchen works with, in the extensive Austrian wine list, and in the considered way the hotel has been developed over time. A significant expansion in 2000 added a new wing with brighter rooms finished in lighter wood and fabrics, alongside a pool and spa area. Rooms in the original building are more traditional in character and somewhat darker, though all are comfortable. The bar has been refurbished to good effect and serves as a natural gathering point. Ski-in, ski-out access means the slopes are immediately on the doorstep, and the on-site facilities — pool, sauna, gym, and spa — give the hotel a self-contained quality that suits those who want everything within reach after a day on the mountain.
