Valmorel is a purpose-built but architecturally considered resort in the Tarentaise valley, connected to the Grand Domaine ski area with over 160km of marked runs shared with Saint-François Longchamp. The village centre is pedestrianised, giving it a quieter character than many larger French resorts. Résidence Akoya is positioned at the heart of this village, meaning ski lifts, grocery shops, bakeries and restaurants are all within a short walk. The ski-in, ski-out access is a practical advantage — no bus, no shuttle, no equipment hauling across car parks. For travel, the package includes private transfers, most likely from Chambéry or Moûtiers, both of which are accessible from major European hubs. The combination of central positioning and direct slope access makes this a genuinely convenient base for a week on snow.

The perfectly crafted, pedestrian-friendly mountain village in the Tarentaise.
Valmorel is a charming, purpose-built ski resort in the Tarentaise Valley, celebrated for its traditional Savoyard architecture. Unlike many of the concrete high-rise resorts developed in France during the 1970s, Valmorel was designed with strict architectural guidelines, featuring low-rise chalets clad in stone, wood, and slate roofs. Its fully pedestrianized center creates a safe, welcoming, and picturesque village atmosphere. The resort is the gateway to the 'Le Grand Domaine' ski area, sharing 165 kilometers of interconnected pistes with neighboring Saint-François-Longchamp. Skiing in Valmorel offers a fantastic mix of gentle, tree-lined beginner slopes, rolling intermediate cruisers, and surprisingly accessible off-piste terrain. The landscape is dominated by the majestic Cheval Noir mountain and the iconic Col de la Madeleine, providing spectacular views stretching all the way to Mont Blanc. Renowned for its family-friendly environment, Valmorel holds the prestigious 'Famille Plus' label. It offers excellent ski schools, dedicated beginner zones, and a relaxed après-ski scene. Yet, with its varied terrain, extensive cross-country trails, and charming village life, it appeals to a broad range of winter enthusiasts seeking an authentic French Alpine experience.
The Grand Domaine offers 165km of varied terrain, with Valmorel providing exceptional progression for beginners and intermediates on wide, sun-drenched pistes. Advanced skiers and freeriders can explore the steeper bowls under the Col du Mottet and the Lauzière massif, while families enjoy the sheltered, tree-lined runs down to Doucy.
Located in the Savoie department of the French Alps, the Tarentaise Valley is home to the world's highest concentration of mega ski domains. Le Grand Domaine is the first major ski area encountered when entering the valley.
A sunny bowl directly above the resort featuring wide cruising blues, the local snowpark, and bordercross tracks.
The highest and most challenging sector on the Valmorel side, offering steep black runs and excellent off-piste bowls.
A lower-altitude satellite village connected by gentle, picturesque green and blue runs winding through dense pine forests.
The famous Tour de France mountain pass in summer, offering spectacular winter views of Mont Blanc and the connection to Saint-François-Longchamp.
Reaching the highest point of the Grand Domaine at 2,550m, this area provides incredible freeride opportunities and steep red descents.
