About The Sonnenalp
Founded by the Faessler family from Bavaria in 1979, the Sonnenalp brings a distinctly Tyrolean character to the centre of Vail. The property operates across three separate buildings — the 5-star Sonnenalp Resort of Vail, the 4-star Swiss Hotel and Spa, and the 4-star Austria Haus — each offering a different tier of accommodation. The flagship Resort is the largest of the three, housing 88 suites across six suite categories, two restaurants, a library, a piano bar, and a 5,000 square foot spa. The Swiss Hotel and Spa, located half a block away, offers creek-view rooms, three suite types, and its own full-service spa and pool. All rooms feature generous bathrooms with both a bath and separate shower, fireplaces, 24-hour room service, and high-speed internet. Ludwig's restaurant, situated within the Resort, holds a strong reputation as one of Vail's finest dining rooms, with a wine list to match. The Sonnenalp is a member of Leading Hotels of the World. Staff wear traditional Swiss costume, a nod to the property's Bavarian origins that sets the tone throughout.

Vail itself is one of Colorado's most established ski destinations, with over 5,000 acres of skiable terrain and a well-connected resort infrastructure. Eagle County Regional Airport is the closest airport, approximately 35 miles west of the resort, with private transfers available. Denver International Airport, around 100 miles to the east, offers significantly more flight options for international travellers. The central village location removes any need for shuttle buses or car hire during the stay itself.
